JP101 beginners course. Should finish newbie before progr...

Hi Guys!

I've been chipping my way through the newbie seasons, and I think they're great. However, I'm wondering what the best way to approach learning Japanese with JP101 is?
After I'm finished Newbie season 1 should I continue with season 2... and then 3,4,5?

Is there any advice on how to progress? Should I be mixing it up a bit, doing some newbie, some beginners, etc?

Any advice would be great!

This is what I've been wondering as well. I'm about to complete newbie season 2 and I'm not sure if I should continue with the newbie season or go on to the beginner seasons.

Our recommendation lesson flow goes a bit out of order, but looks like this:

Newbie S2 → Newbie S3 → Beginner S4

That's because these series follow a set curriculum and are linear, which means that the lessons build on one another.

That's good to know if you want to follow a set pattern. Now if I can get back to a routine and get these listened to I'd be doing better!

I think the linear recommendation is the best (I've done all the newbie and beginner lessons and most of the Lower Intermediate). However, there's something really endearing and crazy about Beginner Season 1 (all 171 episodes!) that's worth listening to at some point. It's probably best to do this after Jessi's suggested sequence. Beginner Season 4 and Newbie Style You and Beyond have my favorite story sequences of all the JPod lessons.

Of course... if one has the time, it wouldn't hurt to listen to MORE as it would reinforce what you should already know, as a review... but I suppose that could get old if you're listening to stuff you already know.

I feel the best Japanesepod101.com has ever done is still beginner season 1, crazy and so entertaining, I think you can start from there since in its 170 episodes covers from the very beginning to a close to intermediate level. I miss it so much.

Listening to Absolute Beginner, Newbie and Beginner simultaneously. If there's repetition of content, no problem, it is just more review

If you're trying to just rush through, then that's missing the point. The more review the better.

I don't think there's a single, definite answer to your question. JapanesePod101 offers a very large amount of material at each level, so you don't necessarily need to complete every series within a level before moving on. What you choose to do next should depend on how you feel things are going.

If you want to push on and you feel ready to tackle more challenging material, perhaps you should consider seeing how you get on with Lower Intermediate material. Or, if you feel you'd prefer to consolidate what you've learnt in Beginner S4, doing Beginner S5 and Beginner S6 might be the better way to go. Or then again, you could follow boku1571's suggestion and do some multi-tasking and try Upper Beginner S1 and Beginner S5 in parallel just to see how you get on.

One of the good points about JapanesePod101.com is that we have several different seasons for each level, so you can continue your study at your own pace. Hope you can find our lessons efficient!

I did Lower Intermediate 6 after Beginner 6. LI6 says that it "bridges the gap between the Beginner Level and Lower Intermediate level". I think that is right. After that, I've rewound to Lower Intermediate 1, then Lower Intermediate 2.

Upper Beginner Season 1 is good too (I just prefer having a full series to study rather than studying a series that is still being updated).
