Copy/Paste PDF

Postby Dispatche » June 11th, 2009 10:23 pm

When I try and copy and paste content from the pdf files it always comes up as a series of boxes. Is there anyway I can successfully copy and paste from from the pdf files?

Hi Dispatche,

What OS are you using? Do you have Japanese language support installed? How about Adobe Reader - do you have the latest version?

I have Windows Vista 64-bit operating system on a dell studio xps laptop. I have japanese language support so I can read/type Japanese. I updated adobe reader to its most recent update and it still wont copy/paste. When I paste content from, for example, a yojijukugo lesson pdf, it just displays a bunch of empty boxes or boxes with numbers in them.

however, copy and paste does work for many of my other pdf files, including the kanji video lesson series.

I desperately need to copy and paste example sentences from the yojijukugo lesson into my SRS, please help!

I use windows XP and have japanese fonts installed and the latest adobe and have tried on a number of occasions to cut and paste but I consistently get boxes and symbols.
It would be good to be able to cut and paste as it saves lots of paper when printing! Cheers, Helen :)

So, just to make things a bit more interesting ... or clearer... :)

Copy pasting works in every pdf reader as long as the document is the Lite one. It's impossible to even copy letters or kanji in Preview or Skim, while Adobe kind of makes you believe it's copying letters or kanji but in the end all you get is those little squares with little "sculls" in them
So, yeah, all the regular pdf files with nice grey background won't let you copy paste ANYTHING.

But if any of the kind tech people have a solution how to overcome this please let us know...

So, I guess it is not the OS issue... or Adobe version...

Good ol' PBG4 OSX 10.5.7
Adobe 9.1

Take care and have a nice day :)

Hello Dispatche san,

Please see my posts in the following thread for a full history on the PDFs.

http://www.japanesepod101.com/forum/vie ... php?t=3602

In short:

Many lessons before 2009 used a certain technology in creating the PDFs that did not support copy and paste. The newer lessons have 2 PDFs. The Lesson Notes PDF will support copy / paste when viewed in Adobe Reader. The Lesson Notes Lite PDF is essentially the old style PDF available for those that do not use Adobe Reader.

Hope that helps,
Charles

P.S. If you are having an issue with a particular Lesson Notes PDF on a particular lesson - please post a link to that lesson's page! Thank you
