No video in iTunes since the update for the iPad

Postby tricycle222 » April 2nd, 2010 1:45 pm

All of the videos I have downloaded into iTunes are still there but only the audio plays now. The Quicktime player is not called to view the video. This is true in all three of my accounts:
JapanesePod101
GermanPod101
and
ChineseClass101
I can open Quicktime outside of iTunes and search for the video in my home folder and play it there. Very inconvenient. I will be calling Apple this afternoon. If you know what is wrong, I would appreciate an replay. Thanks.

Thanks for the warning!
I am glad I did not update my iTune recently.
Please post an update after you get the feedback from Apple.
Thanks much!

No Video in ITunes. Problem Solved

Postby tricycle222 » April 2nd, 2010 9:46 pm

Found the fix while waiting on hold for AppleCare:
1. Go to Preferences in iTunes
2. Highlight the second icon "PlayBack"
3. There is a box at the bottom of the menu with "Play videos using standard definition version.'
4. Place a check in the box and all should be well.

More on iTunes video from Apple Tech

Postby tricycle222 » April 2nd, 2010 11:18 pm

I recontacted Apple support to discuss the loss-of-video problem and my "fix". The tech said that the "standard definition" box should not be checked if I want to watch HD movies, so I unchecked it and tried iTunes viewing of video again. No problem, so I don't know why it went away and I am not sure now why it came back. In any case, I now have my videos and I'm happy. Waiting now for my iPad! HTH

PS The tech said if the problem returns, I should uninstall and reinstall iTunes. Very scary. I would be afraid of losing years of files and playlists in iTunes

I MAY be mistaken (I can't check soon) but I believe if you uninstall iTunes, then re-install it to the same location, it should "find" all of your old files (this is how most PODCatchers I've used have worked, and I seem to recall it doing that with iTunes as well...)

If I get a chance this weekend I'll double check.

Ok. So, I uninstalled iTunes, restarted the computer, and re-installed iTunes.

All 3000+ podcasts are still listed, as are my albums.
