Current subscribers eligibility?

Not sure if this is the right place to post but..

Is it true that if you're a current subscriber that you are not eligible to discounts (e.g. golden week) that are offered to extend your subscription?

Not true at all. I have used promotions when I renewed. The only thing is I manually did it. I don't think it works if your renewal is automatic. (I don't like automatic renewals, so the first thing I do after entering a subscription that automatically renews is stop the automatic renewal.)

It depends on the promotion. You'll have to read the fine print of it to see if current subscribers are eligible for a particular promo or not.
