Transitioning Levels

How do you know when you should switch from beginner's lessons to intermediate lessons? Or from intermediate to advanced?

I figured Just listen all the way through ALL the beginner's course and then go to the next, but honestly, that's a lot.
I'm one of the original listeners from when they only had three levels, and now I see they've added tons more since then, so I'm completely lost.

I'm currently going back through the original content to get a brush up. Is it necessary to go through all the other beginner stuff??

If you study Japanese at school and you want to go to the next level, you have to take a test and pass it, right?
Or if you enroll a Japanese course, you should take a placement test.
No one knows how much you master the Japanese language now so if you go to the next level, I think you should test yourself.
When you pass the test, you can go to the next level.
The test doesn’ t have to be formal, you can just translate English into Japanese or vice versa or can make sentences in Japanese without any hints or recite dialogues and so on.
