Knowing your own level

Postby rffreitas793_503505 » January 1st, 2015 8:55 pm

Hi guys, so i created this topic so you guys could give some piece of advice on how to know your level.
when i started learning on this site, on my dashboard it was a suggestion ( begginer season 4).
I don't know if i start or if i start from absolute begginer.
Thanks for your attention and sorry if this is the wrong place for asking this!

Hi

without knowing a bit more of your experience you had with learning japanese so far its impossible to give you advice as were to start.

- Do you know Hiragana/Katakan?
- Do you already now some Kanjis?
- Did you study Japanese once before or are you starting just now?
- Do you know vocabulary/grammar and if so how much/good?

As a general advice i would say:
If you never studied Japanese before first of all you should learn at least Hiragana before you start any lessons. You can do that by using the Video courses from Jpod.
Then start with the Absolute Beginner Series and from there start Nihongo Doujo Series with the Newbie Seasons.

If you already have prior knowlodge but no deeper understandings of sentence patterns and grammar you should start either with Newbie Seasons or Beginner Season4.

If you already know a good chunk of grammar and vocab and have no problems with sentence patterns you could probably start with Lower Intermediate Season 6 or the Upper Beginner Season.

To check your own level you could also listen to the first 1 or 2 courses from each respective Season and see what you can understand. If its to hard, step one level down.
