This is just a heads-up for anybody who wants to get tickets to any of the concerts at the Saito Kinen Festival in late August/early September. The tickets aren't cheap, but they sell out anyway almost immediately after going on sale, which will happen May 24.

As a member of the orchestra, my daughter managed to get me tickets to a rehearsal last year. The city of Matsumoto is located in Nagano Prefecture, and the weather for most of our stay was wonderful (your mileage may differ). Matsumoto has grown into an artsy-crafty cultural center, and is a really nice getaway if you live in one of the giant Japanese metropolises such as Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya or Osaka.
