A Question About Chopsticks...

Postby questfordolma3207 » February 22nd, 2014 10:38 am

Hello,

My last question was about having a runny nose, so hopefully, this is an improvement.

Regarding chopsticks, there is a question I have had for a while and the answer has eluded me. :?

When you are in a restaurant and need to step away from the table to use the restroom or for some other reason how do you place your chopsticks so it is understood you intend to return?

Hope I posted this question in the correct category.

Thanks so much!

Hello Valerie san,
Some restaurants provide you with hashioki (chopstick rest), so you can put your chopsticks on it.
However, others don’t. In that case you should make a chopstick rest by a paper bag of chopsticks.
Any way if you are in a restaurant alone, you should tell you are coming back to a waiter or waitress.
Google ‘hashioki origami’.
When you don’t receive chopsticks in a paper bag, the restaurant is really casual so just tell a waiter or waitress you are going to a bathroom and coming back.
