'l' or 'x' before applicable letters will result in small characters. Applicable letters being t(s)u, ya, yu, yo, a, i, u, e o.
so lt(s)u, lya, lyu, lyo, la, li, lu, le, lo.
However, particular ones also have shortcuts for how they're commonly used and represented in roman script. Small ya, yu, and yo generally follow ki, shi, etc, and so can be produced by typing, say, 'kyo' or the like instead of 'kilyo'.
Similarly, lt(su) is usually used to represent a glottal stop, which is represented in romaji as a double consonant. So, typing massugu is the same as typing maltusugu or maltsusugu.
