I've never heard using oboette with とします。 But only with と思います, which means you intend to remember.

It's possible to say 覚えようとします (note the construction: the volitional form plus とします, not the te-form), but to me it sounds like you're talking about making an effort to try and memorize something. If someone tells you something useful and you want to say something like "I'll keep that in mind", you could say 覚えておきます. :)
