Kanji... On/Kun?

Postby steven_h1991_498565 » April 3rd, 2014 6:19 am

I just have a simple question... How do you know when to use the "on" and "kun" readings of kanji?
This is the part of kanji that really stumps me... :?

I don't think there's a simple answer to that question...

Where a kanji is used on its own it is likely to have the kun-youmi pronunciation. Where two or more kanji occur together they are likely to have the on-youmi pronunciation, except for names, where they are likely to have the kun-youmi pronunciation.

But there are lots of exceptions. :?

As マイケル san mentioned, it is not an easy question.
Actually it depends….

マイケルさん、
