IDK why no one has responded to this one.
Anyway, "te" form has many, many uses. As a "connector" (and), its just used to link sentences. In general. Think of it as "I did one verb, AND that lead to me doing/and then I did this other verb".
と links nouns. "Peaches AND apples are good tasting."
や to my knowledge is used to link nouns, but doesn't limit your sentence to those nouns. "I went to Kyoto and ate good tasting peaches AND apples (but not ONLY peaches and apples, that's just all I feel like mentioning)."
