haha, you must be talking about me, because I seem to be in a hurry to learn it. Not to master it because realistically speaking I know that can't be achieved in months, not even a year. I would say 2 to 3 years if you study hardcore every day.lol.
I also relate to JAVIZY, I am 24 turning 25 and I spent a year being unorganized because I wanted to learn on my own (which is hard, not impossible because i'm still doing it, but hard nevertheless). So learning on my own led me to being totally confused about where to start learning, and how.It was a total mess, funny, but a total mess. I spent a lot of my studying time just watching Japanese movies and listening to songs to help me get used to spoken Japanese, but in reality I needed to be focusing on the grammar! I feel more organized now because I understand more of the basic grammar and vocab. So,yes, I lost a whole year being "lost" :O. Pretty sad, haha, so maybe that's why I feel the need to hurry up and make up for the lost time. I am hoping to have a near perfect grasp on the language by 30, haha.(Wish me luck)
My advice : Don't be too much in hurry! Mastering the Japanese language is definitely something that must be treated as a long term goal, because I dare say it's impossible in just a 5-6 months.(However you can learn many useful phrases in that short amount of time, enough to get you around Japan) Also even if it takes 3 or more years to master it , don't give up now. Just go at a pace that suits you!
