What is this 遠ざけ ?

Postby remsleep » February 27th, 2010 6:45 pm

Howdy -

I'm not sure what's going on here. Is it a contraction of 遠さ and something (maybe slangy)? It's from a lyric (what is the dropped particle for 夏の雨?):

まるで古い映画をみるよう
夏の雨 世界を遠ざけ

Even in context, knowing 遠く, I can't really tell what the summer rain is doing to the world... (spreading far and wide?) (keeping far away?)

遠ざける is a verb meaning 'to keep away, to keep at a distance'. The マス形 can be used to connect sentences similar to the テ形, but it could just be an abbreviation; I don't know anything about Japanese music. 夏の雨 would be the subject, so the dropped particle would be が. She seems to be suggesting that the summer rain makes the world seem distant, like watching an old film.
