Can anyone translate 日本語にしてみてね? :)

Postby YourNinja » February 26th, 2010 8:08 pm

I'm mailing with a japanese friend and she answered:

◎日本語にしてみてね(*’v’)ノ

I learned that ◎ meant something like "great work".
日本語 says Japanese, but the hiragana I dunno.

Please help me with that part.

Thanks in advance!

The grammar form ~てみる means 'try to ~', so this sentence literally means 'Try to make in Japanese!' - may be in this case something like 'You are trying to do/make/write Japanese'

You can use this form with other verbs, i. e. '食べてみる' (try to eat) or others.

To build the form, you have to build first the て形 'te form' of a verb and then add 'みる'

If you want to have a deeper look at this, you can first use JapanesePod101s Conjugation List (Learning-Center - Reference Material) and then Tae Kims Japanese Grammar Guide, especially at the section Compounds and Te-Form, may helpful for you.

That is right so far but してみてね is a request: "Try to put this into Japanese".

There is an implied ください after みて.
