A question about たら in Lower Intermediate #33

Postby watermen » October 19th, 2009 5:07 am

うちのクラスは赤組だ。皆、白の鉢巻を巻いたらダメだぞー。

I don't really understand the meaning of たら here. Doesn't たら mean "if" or "when"? But I can't fit this meaning into this sentence, may someone explain please? Thanks.

The meaning of 巻いたらダメ is exactly the same as that of 巻いてはダメ. I checked with Naomi-sensei and there is no change in meaning between these two phrases. I suppose if you thought of the literal meaning it would be something like "If you do X, it's bad!" ⇒ "It's not good to do X/You shouldn't do X!"

By the way, feel free to post comment directly to the lessons themselves! We see all comments posted, no matter how old the lesson  And others might have the same question as you!

Thanks for clarifying.

I wanted to post in the lessons, but it seems to me that no one is answering? That is why I post it here. The other reason is, only Jpod101 staffs can see latest changes in the lesson comment. Other member won't know it unless they go and see that particular lesson.
