Another method for learning kanji, left/right method

Postby sseamon » October 3rd, 2009 1:48 am

I've been experimenting with another Kanji learning method.

Instead of just writing the kanji over and over try writing it with your left hand (non dominate hand).

Write it with your right hand/then left/over and over. Doing this you use both sides of your brain. Any advantage helps :) With my left hand it's a very slow and messy process and with my right a total relief. Seems I'm remembering them better using this method.
I think it also helps that with my left hand I really have to think about the stroke order and it's a slower process.

Thought I would share.

Good idea, and so simple! Thank you :-) That is how I'll practice from now on.

By the way, recently at a flea market I bought one of those slate plates children formerly used for writing exercises. It has lines on one side and squares on the other. I use that for practicing kanji. It's fun. And all misdeeds just get wiped out afterwards :-)

I way that I found worked well for me, was to study the stroke order, close my eyes, then 'write' the kanji in my mind, then write it on paper. Cover up what you've just written, and start again. Study the stroke order, close eyes and 'write' in you mind, then write on paper.

I found this method works really well for me.
