how well should i know the kanji?

i plan on going through a book that will teach 2,000 of basic kanji throughout 6 months. so im wondering how closely i should know all the kanji in these lessons? they accumulate pretty fast, so what are your recommendations? im currently going through the beginner and plan on doing survival next

If you're going to use a book that teaches you all the kanji, you don't need to pay very specific attention to the kanji here, do you? Read what you can't, but don't study them.
