Newbie here.
There's something that's been bothering me lately.
Whenever I watch something in Japanese, I always hear someone go "Ii ja nai!" The translation comes up as "That's good!" or sometimes "Not bad!"
But doesn't it literally mean "Not good"? So they're saying "not good", yet they mean "not bad"?
The ending "ja nai" is also used several times in this positive context, too, but isn't it used for negatives?
Please help me.
