Translation help needed,

So my friend and i study japanese, but we suck at written japanese. Anyway, some weirdo keeps sending her messages in her facebook page. And they could be threats. Can anyone help us understand this....死んでもらうわ。

it's not a threat. it's requesting his/her cellphone info. could be phishing, could be legit. but it's definitely spammy.

No, it's definetely a person judging from the other messages. We were both reading them, but thanks because my kanji is not great at all. I appreciate it.

I'm not going to pretend to get all of what's going on here, but 死んでもらうわ and ただで済むと思うなよ seem a bit unusual given the rest of the text there. I don't know if it's her way of saying "knock this garbage off," but that sure doesn't seem like an entirely automated message to me...

now that i look at it again, i retract my initial statement. i didn't know what 山口組 meant... to say they're going to sic the yakuza on you is pretty threatening.

at first i thought that sentence and 死んでもらうわ were written by curious1, since the formality level changed dramatically. were those lines part of the message?

any idea why these messages are being sent?

I'm not well read on yakuza, so hadn't known about Yamaguchi-gumi and assumed it was just some moderator group. Even if it's just normal harassment, this is getting kinda scary now.

actually me and my friend were trying to put up a mixi profile for her, and this person was the first one to leave a message, and he said something like her picture was sexy. And she invite them to be a friend on her list, and all hell broke loose from that point. Truly, this person is special.

I felt it was a threat because i do know some kanji in all my confusion
and 死んでもらうわ set off a red flag. But all that other stuff was in there. Thanks for all your help.

Is this some special yakuza style use of わ, or is this guy as camp as he is stupid/desperate?

If you can't read kanji, you should get Rikaichan (requiresFirefox).

I do have a kanji translator, and my word program converts it to hiragana but it's so much work to do it that way, So i'll check it out. In the meantime, もっと感じを勉強したらいいです。

I also told my friend to make her profile information private for the time being. However, if the yakuza would waste time on this kind of craziness, they seriously need something to do, but you can never be to sure.

It's a plug-in for the browser, you just hover over the kanji when viewing a page as normal and a little box pops up giving you the reading, definition, and related words. It works for non-kanji words as well, so it's really convenient.

For studying kanji and also vocabulary (at least for reviewing them) there is a nifty little program called Anki that you might want to check out as well, it has mobile support I believe.
