Kanji query!Ashamed to ask but I cannot read the handwriting

There is one kanji which I cannot decipher for the life of me... so frustrating. Anyone else find Japanese handwriting difficult or is it just me?

Anyways here goes:

Doraemon-san, itsumo nagara sugoi sakubun desu ne! kore wa honto no ?????? ja nai yo ne?

The ????? looks like it could be the kanji for "kuro" or "gen". But that does not make much sense, does it? Any suggestions?

Wow, that's some messy handwriting. The character in question is 話 (hanashi) meaning 'story', 'talk'.

The sentence これは本当の話じゃないよ means 'this isn't a/the true story'.
