Hotmail and Hiragana Problems

Postby schwing » February 26th, 2007 3:36 pm

I was wondering if anyone is using Hotmail for their email and if they are able to receive messages containing hiragana.

My Japanese tutor uses Hotmail, but whenever I send her a message with hiragana, she can't read it. When she replies back to me it looks like this:

> 縺翫・繧医#縺悶>縺セ縺・
> (Good morning!)

The above text was typed in as:

おはよございます!
(Good morning!)

I'm not sure where or why it got changed.

I am using a Macintosh and type my characters in with the Japanese Kana Palette. If I send a sample message to my home account (also a Mac), I see hiragana; if I reply from home, I still see hiragana. If I send a sample message to my home account, and check my email from my ISP's webmail program, I see hiragana. This seems to me that Hotmail has a problem and was wondering what others were experiencing.

If you are using Hotmail, and don't have any problems viewing hiragana, is there anything you have to do to make sure you can read it?

Thank you for any notes.

Same here, I was only able to read the Japanese characters when I changed the language of my hotmail to Japanese... And that made everything difficult to understand ;)

Now I access my hotmail through Mozilla Firefox, and the problem has disappeared :)
