Actually, Parker is gonna be パーカー (paakaa) in Japanese.
And "Ian" is gonna イアン (ian), although depending on how you prefer it to be pronounced you could write it as イエン (ien).

(Check the Japanese wikipedia entry for Parker Brothers and Ian Fleming)

i think zakojanai's parker is a better translation. easier to pronounce as well.

I just did the introduction lesson that included names, and thought I'd break out the Katakana book and give it a try myself. How'd I do?

Amy エイミー
Hughes ヒューズ

It's my understanding that ー lengthens the vowels, right?

Now, when I write or speak my name, I should use the family name first, and it's written without a space?

ヒューズエイミー

Thanks!

Amy, that looks perfect!

When foreigners say their name in Japanese, they usually keep the same order as English, so you don't need to worry about reversing the order. When writing your name, you can put a dot in between your first and last name so that it's easy to tell where one name ends and the other begins:

エイミー・ヒューズ

I somehow thought Amy would be アミ or something of the sort. Guess I'm wrong :P

Lets see what you can come up with my name. My surname could be a bit tricky as it doesn't seem to be that easy to pronounce in any language other than Finnish.

Joni Saunavaara

Also the pronunciation of Joni in Finnish is close to the word oni, but I'm not sure if I want to be called a demon

Hi tiduさん!

If the "j" in your first name is pronounced (I know in some languages it isn't) then it would be:

ジョニ (Jo-ni)

I can't give you your last name unless I know how it is pronounced :( But if the vowels are the same as in Japanese, than it might be: サウナバーラ. (sa-u-na-baa-ra)

Ohayo fellow JPOD'ers!

I was hoping I might find the translation to my name 'Jamie Lochrie'.

It's pronounced Jamie - 'Jay' 'May/Me', Lochrie - 'Lock' 'Ray'.

Hi. just a thought. my name is pronounced Ann-dree-ah (with an emphasis on the first sylable, not the second)

and my Japanese teacher several years ago wrote it out like アンドレア

but it seems to me the way it's prounounced it should be more like アンドリア

what do you guys think? what would be correct?

Your name would be:

ジェイミー・ロクレー (Jeimī Rokurē)

arujaさん>
If the middle syllable in your name is an "ee" sound then you are correct. It would be アンドリア. :D
