I do complete agree with hisham, I can't either think how i would have managed to study without you ^_^

And i must also agree with the dictionary Hisham mentioned. WaKan really is one of the only programs you need (along with rikaichan) to study Japanese. It got a dictionary, a way to study Kanjis, ways to look up Kanjis without knowing the pronuncation and alot more.

Jpod101+WaKan+Rikaichan = Just a matter of time before you know your Japanese :D

The dictionaries that Wakan uses are as old as hell. Make sure to update them at Monash.

Is it possible to update the actually program with the newer dictionarys? If so, could you please explain fast how it's done? ^_^
There's so much to choose from i don't really know =/

I don't know where the program stores its dictionary files, as I am not a PC user. But all of the dictionary files are available at Monash.

If it's not possible to replace them in Wakan, I'd switch to a different dictionary reader, because the files it uses are a number of years old, and there have been MASSIVE changes to the dictionary since then.

Okey, i will look into it but, wich other dictionarys do you recommend then? The best would be if they were free but, if there are any superb ones that costs it's ok to.

Again, I'm not a PC user, so I don't know. Anything that uses edict and allows you to easily update the dictionary follows should do the trick.

I finaly got it to work to update Wakan. It took some time to do, since it messed up countless of times for me.

But thanks for the reminder of updating the lists, mine was from 2005 i saw so it was a kinda big update i got there ;)

thank you people

the truth is very simple
you don't need to update anything in wakan
i think it works perfect this way
you just need to import the zipped files after extraction
or copy paste them in to the istallation directory

:D

You download the latest EDICT form Monash, copy it into the wakan directory (for convenience), and then use Tools > Dictionary Manager to select and import it. You may also need to download (from Monash), and again copy to the Wakan directory, the file named Uniconv, before you import the EDICT file. It's a bit of a mish, but well worth it for the excellent Wakan interface.
