タ ta vs. yu as in 夕べ yube

Postby JimMedlen » November 29th, 2016 7:52 pm

what is the difference between タ ta in katakana 夕べ yube from the sentence 夕べ行ったクラブにいたコメディアンは面白かった。

How do you know when this character is being used as Kanji vs. Katakana

夕 is bigger than タ
Like how 工 is bigger than エ and 二 is bigger than ニ

Yrrah san,
Konnichiwa.
Thank you for helping JimMedlen san.

Konnichiwa.
Yes, they look similar.
The way to distinguish katakana ‘ta’ from kanji ‘yuu’ is the context.
And also Katanaka ‘ta’ should not be followed by okurigana ‘be.’

It is more of a problem if two kanji are very similar. I made many mistakes with memorizing them. A specific katakana can be similar to a specific kanji but problems can indeed be ruled out by context.
