Reading for 毎

Postby hoamanda_500464 » January 6th, 2016 4:09 pm

Hi,

Understand that 毎 can be read as まい or ごと. What is the difference in usage? When do we use まい, when do we use ごと?

毎(まい)日曜日にデパートに行きます。

5歩毎(ごと)本屋があります。
Every 5 steps there is a bookshop.

How do I say: I play soccer every 2 months?

Thank you!

 さん、
こんにちは。
Basically when you put the kanji before a word, for example, 毎週, it is read as maishuu and when you put it after a word like週毎, it is read as shuugoto. They have the same meaning.
When you want to say ‘every number (not 1), you should use goto.
Therefore, ‘I play soccer every 2 months’ should be ‘二ヶ月毎にサッカーをします.’
