Causative and Passive Form

Postby vanusha168213 » October 12th, 2011 7:04 am

Hi All,

In Business Japanese , I have come across ~~させていただけませんか?

Generally we use させる when someone makes us do something.
for eg - 母は私に勉強させました。

What does ~~させていただけませんか mean?

Please clarify.

Thanks

Hi there

させていただけませんか is a very polite way of asking permission to do something. My Japanese professor in college always had us translate it as, "May I receive the favor of you letting me do X"

For example:
ここで待たせていただけませんか - May I wait here? (May I please receive the favor of you letting me wait here)

Hope this helps. :)
