A few vocabulary questions

Postby WalterWills » April 11th, 2010 6:04 am

1.
あのとっつぁんのせいだよ。

What does とっつぁん mean?
It might be Japanese written with an accent.

2.
てめぇの稼いだ金なんてとっくにないくせに

What does とっくに mean in this sentence?

Also what's the difference between くせに and のに?

3.
財布からお金とって飲みにいきやがった。

What does やがった mean on the end of いく? I'm guessing it's a form of たがる
I.e. He took money from my purse and wanted to go drinking.

4.
調子こかせてんじゃねぇよ!

Looks like there's a verb こかせる here but I have no idea what it means.

Thanks

Go to Jisho.org and copy and paste とっくに into the Japanese slot. i went ahead and did that for you and they said it means: long ago; already; a long time ago

1. Dunno. A slurred something-さん, probably.

2. It's 特に/とくに. glottal stops thrown into the middle of everything = common

3. やがる is something you attach to the stem of other verbs to express extreme disdain for the action and the person committing it. Totally rude.

4. 調子こく means 調子に乗る. This is in the causative, so.

とっくに actually means "already" or "a long time ago", so the translation of that sentence would be something like "Even though the money you earned is long gone" (with context it'd make more sense :) )
