Honorific お+verb+にあがる

Postby okunote » March 7th, 2010 4:16 pm

I was going through the gengo quiz program lower intermediate group 4 on my iTouch when I can across this stentence.

30分以内にスタッフがお届けにあがる予定です.

I was wondering if the translation was something like: The schedule that the staff delivered within 30 minutes.

I can't find an explanation to this "Honorific お+verb+にあがる" construction

I was hoping someone could shed some light on it for me

Thanks!

This is ultra-polite for "届けに行く". Generally, "agaru" has the meaning of "visit" with the extra humbleness added. This is listed in Edict (meaning number18) but it's a bit hard to sort out an entry that long.
