Phone manner

Postby onepiece » September 11th, 2009 5:53 pm

Hi guys,

I have a few questions about phone manner.
1)
How do you say "you" on the phone? Can we use あなた or is there any polite word to use?
I heard something like おたく.

1a) How to ask name on the phone.
example: May I know who is on the line, please?

2) Can we say はじめまして on the phone?

Thank you.

1) To say "you" politely on the phone, you could use そちらさま.

2) To ask who's calling, you could say どちらさまですか.

3) Yes! :D

I hope that helps!!
