i’m new here….as I was reading the PDF i was looking at the japanese writing and i noticed that it looks like some words are written in kana and some in hiragana…when studying the written form i guess it’s a must to know both rigth?

Yes, it's a must to know both when studying Japanese If you want to be fully literate you need to add kanji to that too, but when first starting out mastering the hiragana and katakana are your first priority.
