巡り会う VS 偶然出会う

Postby stevesayskanpai » November 26th, 2008 6:27 am

Hi, whats the difference between these two phrases...

巡り会う
偶然出会う

My take is that the former means more "to meet fortuitously", i.e. with a positive result, whereas the latter is simple "to meet by chance".

Correct?

巡り会う
to meet/find someone you have been looking for (but not specific)
例) 理想の結婚相手に巡り会えた (I was able to meet my ideal marriage partner)
to meet someone you haven't met for ages
 to meet someone by chance

One of 巡る menas "around" in English

偶然出会う
 to meet someone by chance
 to come across someone

I think 偶然出会う is similar to the phrase バッタリ会う。
