Couple of Nikyuu Questions

Postby Flamehearted » October 18th, 2008 10:43 am

Hi all,

I am busy panic preparing for nikyuu :?

Wonder if anyone could help with the following questions.

1) 隣の犬の音が毎晩_____眠れない

A) はなはだしくて B)やかましくて C) あわただしくて D) そうどうしくて

E) さわがしくて

I'm stuck on this one between B, D and E which all seem to mean noisy ?

2)I am having probs with the verb 崩す

I know it means to collaspse / be destroyed but what does it mean in these sentences ?

a) どうぞ、ひざを崩して楽になさってください
b)姿勢を崩さないでたっていなさい

3) Also I am struggling with this question :

たった一枚の写真が命よりだいじなんて___ものがいえない

A) あきらめて B) あきれて C) あきて

D) あわてて E)あらためて

The answer is B (to be shocked or amazed) but I do not understand why or what the sentence means.

Thanks all in advance for any help.

Martin

Flamehearted,

To me, やかましい has the nuance of annoying, only because I heard it as a reprimand manytimes, many years ago.

膝を崩す、and 姿勢を崩す are to relax your sitting position, and to lose your posture, or break your stance.

akiretemonogaienai is It's shocking to think that someone would value a picture over life!

Hope this might help.

Hi Sumiko,

Thanks for taking the time to answer.

That's really helpful - many thanks.

So in the first question are the other answers wrong - or is just that B is the best fit?

Also what does monowoienai translate as ?

Tx !

How do you learn new grammar at JLPT2 level and above? I've got the Seiichi Makino series of grammar dictionaries, which are about as good as it gets, but they've failed to include a number of points. The explanations go into quite some depth, and the comparison sections help consolidate multiple similar expressions, I can also easily review them whenever I want, so it's hard to make do with simple definitions and example sentences.

If you look up phrases in future that don't seem to make any sense, they're probably idiomatic, so try looking up the root form using this site, and you should be able to get a definition, if not a number of example usages.

1) Choose the appropriate word following the topic "音が"
Even native Japanese speaker says "音がそうぞうしい" or "音がさわがしい" by mistake.
 The correct Japanese is "音がうるさい".

3) ものがいえない is "物が言えない" in Kanji, means "can't say anything".
 "あきれてものが言えない" means "utterly scandalized".

 たった一枚の写真が命よりだいじなんてあきれてものがいえない
I feel utterly scandalized that the single picture is more precious than your life.
