Verb Question: Miru

Question for you: I'm trying to read The First Night by Natsume Soseki and I came across a sentence that is probably just advanced Japanese, but I'm a beginner. Can you help?

Essentially the translation says - I had a dream.

The text says:
kon'na yume o mita - the verb referenced in the guide is miru. What verb form is this? Is this just advanced japanese?

miru 見る is the dictionary form or plain present (non-past).
It is the form that is listed in dictionaries and the basic starting point for making other verb forms.

mita 見た is the plain past

mimasu 見ますis polite present or masu form
mimashita 見ましたis polite past

It means to see. In Japan you see dreams.
