A Problem

Postby Fedgrub » October 10th, 2007 7:21 am

I know this is in the wrong place, however I think its the best place to get an answer fairly fast and I have tried in the proper section.

People here discuss the videos that you watch. I have subscribed through iTunes but the ones that they download are audio only, and they are episodes which are similar to the audio only ones but are all dialogue. I have tried opening the video in a different player (Quicktime and Mediaplayer) but that doesnt work ever.

Anyone know if I have subscribed to the wrong thing or if I am doing something wrong?

Thanks

usually i open vids with vlc player. you could try downloading the player from
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

it can play a wide variety of video extensions.

and it's free too!

edit:
usually when you can't open it with quicktime or media player is because it is encoded with some kind of codec to make the size smaller.

i think the vlc player has most (if not all) of the codecs built-in, so there shouldn't be a problem opening encoded videos.

edit 2:
haha! it's funny coz i read your post in "technical support" quite some time back but also some time after your post. i was wondering why nobody replied it, and thought since you weren't complaining abt it... you probably had the problem solved.

Thanks for that idea, I never thought of trying VLC even though I do have it installed already. I'll let you know if I have anymore problems.

I'm still having trouble with this. The VLC player isn't playing my files either, plus the video files are really small (around the size of the audio only podcasts).

I have definately subscribed to the one that says Video + Audio Podcasts. I really want to see the videos damnit! haha

could it be that the file only contains the streaming location? so when you play it, it goes to that location and streams from somewhere else?

what's the size of the file? if it's in kb instead of mb, it might just contain the streaming location instead of the actual thing.

I'm at work now so I cant remmeber the file extension name, however it is in megabytes, because its the same size as the audio only. It opens up as an audio file rather than a video file. Audio plays, but it sounds exactly like the audio podcasts to me. I tried unsubscribing and subscribing again. Annoying! haha

it might just be an honest human mistake where the admin put the same file for the audio and the audio+video. you think so?

If you are talking about the Jpod101 audio + video feed, then it has been a while since they released any videos on it. They don't release videos every day like the podcasts, or even every month. From memory it is probably 6 months ago since they last released a video.

I'm not sure what specific videos it is that people have discussed, but unless it was the iLove series then it probably was not something that was downloaded directly from this site.

Yes, it is the Audio+Video feed. Thats probably why I only download audios and no videos. I'll stay subscribed and wait. Thanks dude.
