Transporting vs buying a guitar in Japan

hey guys,
hope this isnt too late.
im planning to move to japan at the end of the year. I have some great gear here with me know - cab, guitar, amp all that jazz. what a conundrum it is to face - keep your great gear for sentimental reasons or sell it and buy stuff in japan.
from what i have seen, and sorry for the lack of depth, but japan has got some great stuff over there as they produce alot of great musicians. if you are living there, chances are that you will have a bit of cash and you should be ok finding some great stuff at cheap prices. they were a little dearer than US prices for brand new stuff when i saw them at a gaki store, but its like anywhere, you can always haggle, and you can always find a great instrument if you are lucky.
