On as “Arm”

Most of us know as “hand.” But Halpern says that originally meant “arm,” as well as “hand” and “palm.” That’s why words such as 手首 (tekubi: wrist, arm + neck) make sense. The wrist is the “neck” () of the arm, not the neck of the hand.
