Other Words for “To Be Tinged”

As the suffix -ji(mite), both -染みて and -浸みて can mean “tainted (with a quality), tinged (with), having a touch of.”

We’ve seen two other words that mean “to be tinged”:

差す (sasu: to be tinged)
帯びる (obiru: to be tinged with)

The character 帯 is the kanji for obi, the sash around a kimono. We’ve seen this character in several contexts.

And then we’ve even encountered a highly specific word meaning “to be tinged red”:

赤味掛 (akamiga(karu): to be tinged red)
     red + tinge of + to depend

We’ve really been around the block! And yet, if you’d asked me whether I knew any Japanese words for “tinge,” I would have said no!
