One could read 意図 as mind + map! That is, an intention might be a map of the mind!
Unfortunately, Halpern says that 図 in 意図 merely means “intention.” In fact, he says the 意 in 意図 also means “intention,” as well as “(having a) mind to do something.”
So intention + intention = intention? Phooey.
