悪循環 (akujunkan: vicious cycle, vicious spiral) bad + sequential + circle
As I searched for sample sentences in Breen, I hoped to find tales of vicious cycles that people couldn’t escape. I don’t know why I wanted that. Maybe I’m sadistic. Anyway, unfortunately, the only sentence I found had to do with economics. Boring. Not one whit of human drama. But of course, the sentence contains kanji, so there’s plenty to hold one’s interest:
賃金と物価の悪循環を断ち切ることは困難だ。
Chingin to bukka no akujunkan o tachikiru koto wa konnan da.
It is difficult to break the vicious cycle of wages and prices.賃金 (chingin: wages) wages + money
物価 (bukka: commodity prices)
things + price
断ち切る (tachikiru: to cut off, disconnect)
to cut off + to cutFor a long time, I’ve wanted to blog about 断, which has many facets to its personality. But that exploration is far too big to happen here. Maybe someday…
困難 (konnan: difficulty; distress)
to be in trouble + difficult
