The 月 in 背 means “body, flesh,” and 北 literally shows people sitting back to back.
This yields “back of the body.” That extends to “stature” and “to defy” (to turn one’s back on), two more meanings of 背. We saw some of the rebellious aspects of this character last May and the July before that.
