Although I finally know how to talk about language immersion with Japanese people, I haven’t managed to communicate in Japanese about psychological boundaries, something we Californians seem to discuss all the time. For instance, I might say in English, “Oh, she’s really bad with boundaries,” by which I might mean, “I’ve repeatedly tried to draw a line with her, and she’s always crossing it. She has no sense of what’s appropriate to say or ask. She has no concept of what parts of my life are up for discussion.”
Any ideas on how to talk about psychological boundaries in Japanese?
