in Suffixes

In the suffixes -hatasu and -hateru, the kanji emphatically conveys a sense of completeness:

-果たす:

使い果たす(tsukaihatasu: to use up, spend all)
     to use + completely

-果てる:

困り果てる (komarihateru: to be greatly perplexed; be greatly embarrassed)     to be in trouble + completely

疲れ果てる (tsukarehateru: to get tired out; be exhausted)     to get tired + completely

Here’s a sample sentence showcasing both suffixes!

彼はお金を使い果たして困り果てた。
Kare wa okane o tsukaihatashite komarihateta.
He was in big trouble because he used up all his money.

(kare: he)
お金 (okane: money)
