Lesson 13.
A Hundred Kanji.
Are you ready to take your kanji and count skill to the next level?
It’s time for you to learn the kanji meaning 100.
Now let’s learn how to draw this kanji. The meaning of this kanji is 100.
Now we are going to have a trick for memorizing this kanji in just a minute but let’s first look at the reading.
And remember, there are two readings in Japanese kanjis? One is the 音読み (on'yomi) the On reading and the other one is the 訓読み (kun'yomi) the Kun reading. Now the On readings come from Chinese and the Kun reading comes from Japanese.
This kanji only has the On reading. The On reading for this kanji is ヒャク (hyaku) and ビャク (byaku) .
Okay remember the hint that I was telling you about? Let’s look at that now.
You have to tilt your head a little bit like this. Now if you covered this line here, it kind of looks like 100, right?
So let’s learn how to draw this kanji. Pay attention to the stroke order, it’s very important. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Let’s try it one more time. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.
Now let’s look at some sample words.

Remember, we only have the On reading for this. The On reading for this kanji is hyaku and byaku . First we have hyaku. ひゃくえん (hyaku-en) which means 100 yen. Next we have byaku. さんびゃくえん (san-byaku-en) which means 300 yen.
