Intermediate romaji

Postby andycarmenjapanese8100 » April 25th, 2013 8:24 pm

There are no romaji transcripts for the intermediate lessons. The PDFs have kanji, kana and an english translation but no romaji. It's not just a matter of "we're encouraging you to stop using romaji at more advanced levels" because the upper intermediate levels DO have the romaji transcripts. I'd appreciate if somebody could update the intermediate transcripts to add them. I find them very useful and struggle without them.

Lesson nine and twelve have no romaji in the vocabulary sections, lessons ten, eleven and thirteen have partial romaji in the vocabulary sections. The other lessons have complete romaji.

It looks like these PDFs are unfinished. Like somebody started doing the romaji and then didn't complete them.

I wish they would remove all romaji from every lesson beyond beginner level. It is distracting and a hindrance.

So ignore it.

For me, kanji and kana are a hindrance. I shouldn't be forced into learning a writing/reading system that is a complete waste of time for my purposes.

Andy-san, SeeingLifeAnew-san,
thank you very much for pointing it out.
I'll talk to my team to solve the problem as soon as possible.

For some listeners, romaji can help too much and make them lazy to learn hiragana, katakana and kanji, but
we all understand that others need romaji, for several different reasons.

Thank you very much for your feedbacks! :D

I agree with Seeing. I don't see why an advanced person would be needing romaji it they are advanced. I wish there was some romaji free lesson notes, where I can force myself to learn japanese characters, and avoid the training wheels of the romaji.

Perhaps they're advanced in speaking/listening and not reading/writing. Kana and kanji are not an effective time investment for people like me who are primarily interested in Japanese TV/music and chatting with my Japanese friends. I'd rather be building vocabulary and learning grammar rules.

Removing romaji would be to sabotage my learning.

If you don't like it, ignore it.

Simple.

It's company policy to include it, I'm just asking for these unfinished PDFs to be completed.

Yes, two versions of the pdfs would be great. Then each individual can choose for themselves to utilize romaji or not.

And it is not all that easy to just "ignore" it. It is a distraction when eyes are naturally drawn to roman letters.

The PDFs have been updated now. Thanks.

However, for some reason, intermediate lesson 30 still doesn't have romaji. The others do.

Thanks.

There's no English translation (or romaji, or kana) for the grammar point in I33. It's in kanji with no explanation.

Here's my attempt at romanisation. It's somewhat above my level so it may not be 100% correct, but I hope it's close enough to be of some help:-
