Japanese drinking phrases

Hey, I'm wondering if anyone knows any good phrases in Japanese about drinking beer. There is a local pub by my house (in the states) that I can get a personalized mug and I want it to say something cool in Japanese. For example my friend put on his mug "vino veritas" which is Latin I think, and means in wine there is truth. So does anyone have a good phrase for me in Japanese? Thanks.

Afraid I don't know anything like that aside from the good old standby "kampai." This is the kind of thing that interests me though, so if I come across something more philosophical I'll be sure to post it here.

I was thinking more of a actually Japanese phrase, not so much an English phrase translated into Japanese. Maybe like a short Japanese proverb or something. It would have to be short to fit on a beer mug.

Found a page on Wikipedia that had a ton of alcohol related proverbs/quotations, and take no shame in saying that there were quite a few I couldn't understand. At any rate, I did find two that seemed somewhat relevant:

酒の中に真あり "sake no naka ni makoto ari," which is the same as the latin, "in sake there is truth"

酒が沈むと言葉が浮かぶ "sake ga shizumu to kotoba ga ukabu" which means "when drink goes down, words come up."

It's something anyway. If you feel like suffering through some archaic language and kanji JWPce can't even find, knock yourself out:

it's the Tsugaru dialect way to say "let's drink!" but everyone can understand it!

いきいき - I believe it means to chug.

you won't here イッキイッキ much these days. apparently if someone goes to the hospital or dies of of alcohol poisoning, anyone who encouraged them saying that can be prosecuted with manslaughter. so be careful with that one


in Beginner Season 2 series "Guy's Night Out" there were a few good phrases.

「お前、何飲む？俺、ビール飲むけど。」

you might want to substitute お前 with the other person's name+さん and substitute 俺 with 僕 or 私 if you wanna play it safe.

When you go to the restaurants and bars in Japan, people would say

"とりあえずビール"

That is, before we order anything, let's start with beer.
