nihongo dojo problems

I've downloaded the series pdfs via iTunes premium and when I open the files it says that there is a problem with the file and its unable to open,
So far I believe its only this series, and none of them are able to open.

help!

They work for me. They open in Preview in OSX 10.4 with no problem.

It'd be worth saying what system and program you use for when tech support hopefully get around to you.

I'm using XP and Adobe Reader 7.0
Again, I can open every other PDF from jpod101 or anything else too.
It's just these ones that won't open.

Either you upgrade to Windows Vista or update the latest Adobe Reader 8.0 here:

I have the same problem. It is because of the long vowels in the word dojo (with the bars above the "oh"s).

If you rename the file to remove the word dojo, you should be able to open it fine.

i didn't realize that such a problem was possible.... i'm not even sure who to blame for it.

on beltonさん's mac it works fine.
nickTさん's (PC?) does it fine, citing the macrons over the O's as a problem.
sindyさん claims that windows vista has no problem...


so on a windows vista machine running the latest version of acrobat, i tried it out.
it didn't work. i tried nickT's fix (manually change the o's with macrons to good old fashioned o's), and it worked.

sindyさん、does it really work on your vista system?

personally, i want to keep the macrons, because, well, it's the tidiest way to differentiate between an o and a long o, but...

if anyone else is having this problem, let me know ASAP.
if it's a windows-wide problem, we'll have to do something about it.

OK, well this is interesting (sort of).

I tried to open the PDF files again just now, and they opened just fine. To clarify, when I was having problems opening the ND pdfs, and solved the problem by renaming them, was several months ago around when they first came out. Being an intermediate student, I don't really listen to newbie lessons much.

Anyway, obviously I changed something between then and now. One thing that springs to mind is that I have changed feeds. I used to download from (I think) the premium feed, and now I get them from the basic feed. This may make a difference as clearly the source of the PDF affects the way it is named - If you download it directly from the website, for example, it doesn't have "dojo" in the name at all. I'm not sure if different feeds have different naming conventions.

The other thing I may possibly have changed (although I don't remember doing it), is upgrading acrobat to the latest version. I am running version 8, on Windows 2000.

I tried copying the PDF to my girlfriends laptop, and, surprisingly, it did not work. Same error as before, something due to the file name I think. She is running Windows XP and Acrobat 7, on what is actually a much newer and more up-to-date PC that mine.

This leads me to believe it is more likely to be the version of Acrobat that is to blame that the OS.

Anyway, seems to me that the simplest solutions is just to not use macrons in the filenames, as you can never be sure that everyone is running the most up to date software. I don't think anyone would seriously miss them. Dojo is an english word as well, after all, appearing in oxford english dictionary (without long vowels).

It's so strange, it works fine with Windows Vista Ultimate and Adobe 8.1 and I'm in USA too.
