New app for jlpt's vocabulary

Postby attwad » June 25th, 2007 9:14 am

Ok I just made a new app!
It uses a totally different kind of method to remember the voc than the other app, it's called "passive learning" and you'll understand why's that:

There is no window in this application, just an icon on the system bar where pops up a message sometimes with a word and its translation/kanji/type. You can adjust the delay between messages (default is 1minute), pause or resume the app when you want and choose between the levels 2, 3 and 4 of the jlpt test.

here is a screenshot:

and the link:

Happy passive learning ;)

:!: MAC USERS: It doesn't work on MAC! until a stable 6.0 version of the Java virtual machine is released the behavior of my app is unknown, but once it's released you should be able to use it right away.

 As the application uses a system protected place (the task bar) it requires that you allow the application to use it so when you're asked if you're willing to do so (certificate thing when you click on the link) please accept or it won't launch.
If some of you are reluctant I put the sources of the app in the jar file so feel free to have a look

Oh man this is great.

What a nice tool for busy people who are on the PC all day. Simple and effective....brilliant! I can't compliment you enough here. Guys just try it and you will see what he means.

Nothing big or fancy here, just a great simple tool. :D

*EDIT*
I am on Vista and it doesn't seem to want to change lvls. It stays on lvl 1. Nothing major, still a great idea.

Nice one! But can you add an option to increase the font size? I having difficulties separating ご and こ, for instance.

Thanks!

I didn't add the 1st level simply because I don't have the vocab list for this level ^^
if someone could send me a list of the thousands of words and their kanji/translation I'll gladly accept it, format it, and integrate it in my app... but for now you'll have to stick with the 6000 words currently in ;)

Ok that should do the trick!! I added lvl 1, you can all thank noshadow31 for sending me the list :)
Now you can access the 14206 words available :D
This is for this small app but also the others of course (web and non-web version of the quizzer, see : http://www.japanesepod101.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1638 )

Nice one! But can you add an option to increase the font size? I having difficulties separating ご and こ, for instance.

No biggie. I managed to work around it by changing the tooltip font in the system wide settings. The drawback is that all of my tooltips now are huge :D

Thanks for the app!

よしみんな!Here is the method to use the apps offline:

1) open your control panel and go to the java settings
2) on the "general" tab click on the "View" button for the "temporary internet files"
3)Right click on the app you wanna launch offline and choose either "launch offline" or "install shortcuts" to be able to launch it from your desktop.

That's all folks!

note: remember to launch it "online" sometimes in case there was an update available ;)

For those having trouble reading the kana part under windows xp here is what it looks like under vista:

better heh? you'll defenitely see the difference between ご and こ !
and if you're not willing to change to vista (I can understand that but here it's not the topic...) maybe you can ask to botterli how he did to increase his font size for the tray messages ;)
