I have a new opportunity to practice my Japanese, but ahve a question or two.

1) In replying to an email from Japan (someone I don't know nor am likely to meet) I would suspect it to be correct to use the polite form in emails. Hence, my first question. Is it proper to use arigatou gozaimasu (or the hiragana equivalent) when thanking someone for supplying the requested information.

2) How should one close an email (what is the equivalent of "Regards", "Cheers", etc.)?

These are my initial questions.

When I used 敬具 and　拝啓 in an email for a writing exercise, my japanese teacher told me those were for normal letters only, not for email. Can you verify this?

Yeah, I believe it's polite/formal. So your teacher perhaps meant that it would be used only in a formal situation (i.e. a letter) rather than an informal situation (i.e. a friendly email). I believe that you *would* use these in a formal email, but I'm not positive about that.

Informally, it's easy. I would just use またね or something, the same as I would when I was speaking.

To be honest, I've never written a Japanese letter or a Japanese business email, so I'm not really sure what to do in these situations.
