Kunyomi Periods

Postby jakespringhorn_498582 » May 13th, 2014 4:01 am

Currently studying Kanji, and I noticed some bits of Kunyomi have periods that separate characters, such as まる.い

What does the period mean? Thanks!

It means that when the kanji is followed by the hiragana shown after the period, it will be pronounced in the way shown before the period. So if 円is followed by い it is pronounced まる but if it is followed by か it is pronounced まど, and this is shown as まる.い and まど.か.
